The Morrow Home Place, a historic farmhouse near Collinsville, is among 10 Oklahoma sites that have been added to the National Register of Historic Places.
Ten Oklahoma properties, including one in Collinsville, have been elevated to the National Register of Historic Places, the State Historic Preservation Office has announced.
Joining the Morrow Home Place, a farmhouse in Tulsa County, are the Moore Ranch in Nowata County and American Baptist Home Mission House in Tahlequah. Other area properties making the list are the White Cloud Lodge near Perkins and the Veterans Colony near Wilburton.
Listing in the National Register is an honorary designation that provides recognition, limited protection and, in some cases, financial incentives for the properties.
Typically, the State Historic Preservation Office identifies, evaluates and nominates properties for this special designation four times a year, Schwan said. She said 1,183 properties in Oklahoma are listed on the National Register.
The Morrow Home Place is the 72nd National Register listing in Tulsa County.
An example of some of the earliest settlement in the area, the 1½-story hall- and parlor-type house has remained virtually intact since its construction.
It was occupied by the Morrow Family since it acquired the land in 1912, and the changes reflect the long occupancy, according to the State Historic Preservation Office. A building type that once dominated the area's landscape, it has been supplanted by newer, bigger buildings.
